Kayakapi Premium Caves is easily the most romantic hotel in Cappadocia and probably one of the most romantic in the world. I stayed at this boutique hotel with my husband as a treat for my birthday.
It is ranked as 9th in the world according to TripAdvisor’s ‘Traveler’s Choice 2019 Awards”. And I can see why, this was the highlight of our holiday and is one of the most beautiful hotel rooms I have ever stayed in.

The Hotel
The hotel itself is quite large for Cappadocia (it has 43 rooms). But the service still manages to feel as attentive as it does in smaller hotels. When we first arrived we were given a warm welcome and then taken to our room on a buggy. Along the way we were told about the history of the hotel and even stopped at the ruins of an old church.
The website states that it is not just a cave hotel but is a cultural and historical project. It aims to conserve and restore this historical neighbourhood. The rooms were used as shelter between the 9th century and 1961, they have now been renovated into premium rooms.

Entrance to the suite

All of the rooms are beautiful cave rooms with traditional decor. We treated ourselves to a private pool suite, room 119 – Mehmet Tokat Evi. This is one of the three suites with its own private pool, each of them have a unique design.
Our suite had its own private courtyard with a beautiful view of the town opposite it. It even had its own doorbell which was useful as the room was so big.
The Suite

The inside of the suite still looks like a cave and shows off how masterfully they have restored these rooms. There is a separate living room and a huge bathroom with its own Hamam. A Hamam is a Turkish Bath and is the Turkish version of the Roman steam bath.
Our suite even had its own bar beside the pool and complementary coffee, snacks and a bowl of fresh fruit.

The Indoor pool

The centrepiece of this suite has to be the pool. Having an indoor pool felt like such a luxury. It was heated to make sure that it was always the perfect temperature. The heater for the pool can be switched off at night so that there isn’t any noise. There is also a heater/ air conditioning unit to make sure that the room is the perfect temperature.
The Birthday treat

As soon as we got to the room someone was waiting with a cake for my birthday. The bed and around the pool was decorated with rose petals and candles, it was unbelievably romantic.
[Husband here! The hotel were amazing at arranging this for me. Once we had booked our suite I emailed the hotel. They were more than happy to arrange all this for me. Hopefully something all you out there could arrange for you significant others.]
There are two onsite restaurants but we couldn’t tear ourselves away from the room and decided to order room service. It was so relaxing to eat our food in a table in front of the pool.

Breakfast by the pool

This was the best breakfast that we had in Cappadocia. It was a huge buffet breakfast with so many sweet and savoury options and freshly made eggs.
There is a choice of either eating inside or out beside the pool. The hotel has an amazing outdoor area next to the restaurant. We sat poolside watching the sunrise over the town during breakfast.

Location
During the whole of the 5 days we were in Cappadocia we didn’t see a single balloon. It does make you feel a bit like you haven’t been to Cappadocia, which to be honest was upsetting. That’s why it was nice to be at a hotel where the focus was on the amazing room and grounds of the hotel. Rather how good the view of the balloons from the rooftop is.
Kayakapi is in Urgup, which means that is doesn’t have the same same rooftop view as some of the other hotels. (Not that I can be sure because we didn’t see the balloons at all during my stay). I think this is the main reason that Kayakapi doesn’t get the attention that§ it deserves. There is a free shuttle bus into the city centre that the hotel offer.
This is one of the most beautiful and unique hotel rooms I have ever seen, let alone stayed in. They gave us a little gift at the end to remember our stay. This on top of how they beautifully decorated our suite, the cake and the stunning indoor pool made us feel so special. It is the perfect romantic treat for a special occasion, honeymoon or even a proposal!
