Lake bled is one of the highlights of Slovenia and a popular tourist attraction all year round. The Lake Bled viewpoint is the perfect place to admire the amazing view. We went at the end of September when the autumn reds, browns and oranges of the trees framed the beautiful lake.
Ojstrica viewpoint
Ojstrica is the classic view of Lake Bled viewpoint that you have probably come across on Instagram. It is the perfect distance from the lake and has a choice between a bench or some rocks to sit on and admire the view.
It is only a 20 minute walk to the top and has a bench with this view. We managed to miss it, maybe because we were there early and didn’t have crowds to follow. There are sign posts but we accidentally ended up at the other viewpoint, Velika Osojinica.
Ojstrica viewpoint isn’t very far into the woods and there are stairs to the right leading up to it. In my opinion this was the better viewpoint because it was not so high up and Velika Osojinica had a big wire mesh across it for safety reasons.
Velika Osojinica
Velika Osojinica is the higher Lake Bled viewpoint. As i mentioned earlier we accidentally ended up here but I’m glad we did so that we now know which one we prefer. If you walk slightly to the left hand side of the viewpoint you can take a photo through the trees from the path. This means that it is still safe but you can see Lake Bled from a different angle. Also the safety mesh isn’t very high so it is easy to take photos over the top of it. But it does mean that sitting on the bench there doesn’t feel quite as relaxing as at Ojstrica This avoids the safety mesh.
The whole area around the viewpoints can be muddy and slippy so make sure to wear good shoes when walking to either Lake bled viewpoint.
Bled castle
Bled castle gives you another view over Lake Bled. However it is a bit further away from the island so it is not as good as Ojstrica. The day we were at the castle it was very foggy and we didn’t end up taking any pictures. But I recommend going to Lake Bled for more reasons than just the view.
